Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information PICPIO collects when you use it, why we collect it, where it is stored, and the choices you have. PICPIO is a VS Code extension for programming Microchip PIC microcontrollers, created and operated by CURIOUS WORM ("we", "us").

In short: PICPIO requires a one-time Google sign-in so we know who is using it. We record your Google account's basic profile (name, email, photo) and sign-in activity. We do not collect your code, your projects, or what you build, and we never sell your data.

1. What we collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store the following from your Google account:

2. What we do not collect

  • Your source code, projects, or build output.
  • Your microcontroller hardware, serial data, or what your programs do.
  • Your Google password (sign-in is handled entirely by Google).
  • Any analytics, tracking, or advertising identifiers.

3. Why we collect it

PICPIO is provided free of charge. We record basic identity and sign-in activity so we can understand who is using PICPIO and how much, support users, and protect the service from abuse. Collection happens only after you give consent at sign-in.

4. Where it is stored

Your information is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication), in a project operated by CURIOUS WORM and dedicated to PICPIO. Google processes this data as our service provider on Google's secured infrastructure. The PICPIO extension also stores your name, email and account ID locally on your own computer (in VS Code's secure secret storage) so it can keep you signed in.

Cookies and local storage: the sign-in page uses cookies and browser local storage that are necessary for Google sign-in to work (for example, to complete authentication and keep your session). We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

5. Who it is shared with

  • Google / Firebase: the infrastructure provider that performs the sign-in and hosts the data on our behalf.
  • No one else. We do not sell, rent, or trade your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
  • We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or CURIOUS WORM.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account record for as long as PICPIO is in use or until you ask us to delete it (see below). You can sign out of PICPIO at any time from the extension; signing out removes the copy stored on your computer.

7. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • Access the information we hold about you.
  • Correct it if it is wrong.
  • Delete it from our systems.

To make any of these requests, contact us (section 10) from the email address you signed in with. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR; we honour those requests.

8. Children and students

PICPIO is often used in education. If you are using PICPIO in a school or under the age required for consent in your country, please sign in only with the permission of a parent, guardian, or teacher. If you believe a child has signed in without appropriate consent, contact us and we will delete the record.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest version. Significant changes will be noted here.
